WINNIPEG – It will be a golden weekend for more reasons than one.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes open up their defense of the American Association title Saturday with the start of training camp. As the boys of summer round the bases to kick off the 2013 season, our temperatures will round the bend towards the seasonal normal under a clear, sunny sky.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

After a chilly start to May and the third coldest April on record, southern Manitoba is about to get the warm up its been waiting for. A ridge of high pressure will dominate the southern prairies into next week, replacing the cold air in the upper atmosphere with a warmer flow. This will push us into a stable, warm weather pattern with no threat of precipitation for several days to come.

The first weekend of May will be perfect with barely a cloud in the sky, light wind and a mild temperature that will become warmer and be punted above seasonal into Sunday.
