MONTREAL — Long-time Liberal MP Denis Coderre has filed an application with Elections Quebec to register a municipal party in his name.

“Équipe Denis Coderre pour Montréal” has been added to the list of party names awaiting approval, putting an end to any doubt that Coderre is gearing up for a mayoral run in Montreal.

The former cabinet minister is expected to confirm his intentions on May 16. This week, Coderre told reporters in Ottawa that “we’re just putting the finishing touches on some things … there’s a transition in play.”

Registering the party with Elections Quebec is likely one of the last steps that need to be taken before Coderre formally launches a campaign. Montrealers will go to the polls in November.

Coderre has been the Liberal member of Parliament for the north end riding of Bourassa for the past 15 years.
