EDMONTON- Police are investigating a case of animal cruelty, after a dog was allegedly dragged behind a pick-up truck in central Edmonton Tuesday.
Witnesses tell police they saw a white and brown pit bull being dragged behind the pick-up, by a rope or leash attached to the rear bumper.
The incident happened in the area of 92nd Street and 114th Avenue around 12:30 Tuesday afternoon.
Officers say witnesses attempted to stop the truck, but it left the area without stopping.
After being informed of the incident, officers went to an emergency veterinarian clinic, where they found a female white and brown female pit bull matching the description provided by witnesses.
Police say the dog was dropped off by two men.
The dog suffered serious injuries similar to road rash, and was treated for injuries to the pads of her feet. The pit bull is expected to survive, but the dog has a long recovery ahead.
Wednesday afternoon, police were searching for a suspect(s), who was believed to have been driving a 1999 black Dodge Ram pick-up truck. Later Wednesday afternoon officers the registered owner of the vehicle came forward and police were conducting interviews.
