Stolen car’s owner tracks down suspect using app and holds him for Winnipeg police

A suspected car thief is behind bars after a Sunday morning chase in West Kildonan.

Police said a vehicle had been reported stolen from a Main Street business, where it was left running, around 3 a.m.

According to police, the owner spotted the vehicle around 10:25 a.m. the same day in the 800 block of Leila Avenue, after tracking it with a phone app.

When the accused saw the vehicle’s owner, he fled the scene, leading to a foot chase.

The owner managed to hold the accused, with the help of some nearby security officers, until police arrived.

The vehicle was recovered and no one was hurt in the incident.
