Semi-truck driver hits 16 year-old boy walking on perimeter highway

Manitoba RCMP say they were called to the south perimeter highway late Tuesday night to a pedestrian hit by an on-coming vehicle.

RCMP say a 16-year-old was walking on the perimeter between St. Mary’s Rd. and Ste. Anne’s Rd. when a semi struck him on the highway.

The 43-year-old semi-truck driver was traveling west just before 8 p.m. when he hit the teenager.

RCMP say the teen was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later upgraded to stable condition.

Drivers in the area Tuesday night say two RCMP cruisers could be seen, along with a fire truck just before 9 p.m.

RCMP say the Traffic Services Unit and a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist are investigating the cause of the collision.

STARS Ambulance was originally called to the scene, but when they landed, they were no longer medically required.
