Foles, 30, has signed a four-year contract with the Jags worth $88 million. That’s an average of $22 million a season. With incentives, however, that deal can balloon to $102 million.
The signing will become official when the new league year begins on Wednesday and marks the end of the Blake Bortles era in Jacksonville.
Bortles, who signed a three-year extension with the team just 13 months ago after leading them to the AFC championship game in 2017, is going to be released.
Foles guided the Philadelphia Eagles to a Super Bowl title in 2017 and is a big upgrade from the inconsistent Bortles.
But can Foles do in Jacksonville what he did in Philly?
The Austin, Texas, native is coming off two excellent playoff runs with the Eagles, but there are a number of factors that must happen for the Jaguars to become a Super Bowl contender.
If the team improves its receiving corps, running back Leonard Fournette returns to playing like he did as a rookie two years ago and the defence continues to live up to the “Sack-sonville” mantra, the Jags should at least challenge for a playoff spot in 2019.
