It’s official, Drake (born Aubrey Graham) has officially signed on for his very own Las Vegas residency, but not the traditional kind… the God’s Plan singer will not be strictly bound to one venue only.
The 32-year-old agreed to more of a “partnership” with Wynn Las Vegas as revealed to Rolling Stone by Wynn’s executive vice-president and managing partner, Alex Cordova.
Cordova revealed that Wynn pursued Drake’s management in the final quarter of 2018 — likely following the rapper’s sold-out performance at the Staples Center last October.
“We’re looking at all possible environments within the hotel and working with Drake and his team to see exactly how he can lend assistance in curating these experiences,” he added.
Drake currently has two scheduled dates. Both are set to take place at the XS Las Vegas nightclub. Each of these gigs will be presented by Wynn Nightlife.
Drake appeared at the XS nightclub in January, where the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported he made a suggestive speech to the near 4,800-strong crowd.
“You’ll have a lot of chances to see me,” he concluded.
Rumours began circulating about a Drake Las Vegas residency following this. Shortly after, he posted a picture to Instagram with the caption, “New home.”
Upon building their relationship, Cordova revealed that while there were concerns from both teams about downsizing Drake’s typical stadium-sized production, both parties wanted to create something more intimate.
“I think there was a lot of apprehension from both sides,” he said.” “We wanted to make sure this wasn’t related to other things that are happening across the strip.”
“That was most important to his team and to our CEO,” Cordova continued. “This can’t just be about a show or dates on a calendar. It has to be more important.”
He promised that it would be something unexpected for fans of Drake, but something exciting.
XS Las Vegas is split between an 1,800-capacity indoor venue and an outdoor pool area which fits around 3,000.
Cordova said, “we’re going to completely remove the DJ booth,” allowing for the stage to lay in the centre so that Drake can perform a 360-degree concert to everybody involved.
