According to the SIU, on Aug. 29, 2018, police located a man at a residence in Parry Sound in connection with a bank robbery investigation.

The SIU says the man identified himself to officers, but refused to open the door.

The man also told officers he did not want to live, the SIU says.

According to the SIU, when officers gained entry, the man laid down and banged his head on the floor.

The SIU says while officers had a discussion with the man, he began to convulse and went into medical distress.

Investigators say Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and performed CPR on the man.

The man was transported to hospital where he was placed in the Intensive Care Unit for suspected drug ingestion.

On Sept. 7, 2018, the SIU says the man was taken off life support and declared dead.

According to the SIU, a post-mortem examination determined the cause of death was acute cocaine and fentanyl intoxication complicated by hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy and acute bronchopneumonia.
The man also had minor scrapes and lacerations on his face associated with banging his head on the floor.
The SIU had been conducting an investigation into the incident, which has now been terminated.
“The man died of a drug overdose prior to his contact with police, in conjunction with other medical issues,” SIU director, Tony Laparco said in a news release. “Accordingly, I have terminated the investigation into this incident.”
