Freezing rain and snow are expected for Peterborough and the Kawarthas on Wednesday.
Environment Canada updated its special weather statement Wednesday morning as freezing rain is expected for Peterborough, Peterborough County and throughout the City of Kawartha Lakes later in the day.
The statement says a low-pressure system from the Southern Plains is moving toward the Great Lakes and snow will begin in the region on Wednesday afternoon.
The snow will then change to ice pellets and freezing rain on Wednesday evening.
Environment Canada says most areas may receive 2 to 5 cm of snow and ice pellets before the transition to freezing rain.
That precipitation will change to rain overnight as temperatures rise above 0 C.
“Untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery,” the statement reads. “Travel may be affected.”
