Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement calling for the possibility of freezing rain for most of eastern Ontario.
The Kingston, Brockville and Belleville regions could see freezing rain beginning Wednesday night and into Thursday morning.
According to the weather agency, the inclement weather is expected due to a low-pressure system developing over the southern plains as it moves toward the Great Lakes.
Environment Canada says that before the rain, there may be snowfall on Wednesday evening, which is expected to change into ice pellets and then to freezing rain later Wednesday night.
The weather agency says most affected areas could see a few centimetres of snow and ice pellets before the freezing rain begins. The snow and ice may only come to an end Thursday morning when the temperature is expected to rise above the freezing.
Weather officials are warning of possibly hazardous driving conditions over Wednesday evening and into Thursday morning.
