Freezing rain warning in effect for Barrie, Orillia, Collingwood: Environment Canada

A freezing rain warning is in effect for the Barrie, Orillia, Midland and Collingwood areas.

Environment Canada issued the warning, saying freezing rain is expected to hit the region Wednesday evening as a large, low-pressure system moves towards the Great Lakes.

The weather agency says snow will arrive Wednesday afternoon and will change over to freezing rain by Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada is warning untreated surfaces may become icy and slippery, making travel hazardous.

“Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance,” the warning reads.

Officials say the freezing rain will change to rain or drizzle by Thursday morning as temperatures rise above zero.
