There have been 11 influenza-related deaths in Saskatchewan so far this flu season.
According to the province’s Ministry of Health on Feb. 13, four of those deaths were preschoolers and the rest were adults.
During the 2017-18 flu season, there was a total of 16 influenza-related deaths.
According to the ministry, there are a number of factors that will contribute to the severity of a season, including the strain and the age group it affects.
Influenza is caused by a virus that spreads easily through coughing, sneezing and direct contact with nose and throat secretions.
Anyone six months of age and older can receive the free flu vaccine in the province.
