Guelph Storm pick up 4 points during three-in-three weekend series

The Guelph Storm picked up four of a possible six points over their three-in-three weekend series.

It didn’t start as planned as the Storm stumbled out of the gate on Friday, falling 6-2 to the Sarnia Sting at Sleeman Centre.

Nate Schnarr and Alexey Toropchenko scored for Guelph in a losing effort.

Anthony Popovich was pulled from the net in the second period after allowing four goals on 17 shots.

Guelph managed to turn things around in Sarnia on Saturday and beat the Sting 4-1.

Sarnia jumped out to a 1-0 lead, but Guelph managed four unanswered goals, including two by Liam Hawel.

Nick Suzuki and Dom Commisso potted two goals as well.

Popovich rebounded to make 24 saves to improve his record to 23 wins and nine losses on the season.

Guelph capped off the weekend by hammering the Kingston Frotenacs 9-0.

Hawel scored again and picked up four assists, while Daniil Chayka and Isaac Ratcliffe each had two goals.

Nico Daws made 29 saves for his first career OHL shutout.

Guelph currently sits in fourth place in the OHL’s western conference and will return to action on Wednesday in London against the Knights.
