Man accused of breaking into Peterborough area motel, assaulting guests

An Ajax, Ont., man faces charges after an attempted break-in at a Peterborough area motel early Thursday.

Peterborough County OPP were called to a motel on Highway 7 around 1 a.m. for reports that a man was attempting to break into the office of the motel in Otonabee-South Monaghan, just on the outskirts of the City of Peterborough.

Police say they located a suspect at the rear of the motel.

Police allege the suspect assaulted two guests at the motel.

Andre Saunders, 29, of Ajax, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault, mischief under $5,000, possession of a schedule I substance (heroin), and failure to comply with a recognizance.

He was held in custody and will appear in court in Peterborough on Thursday.
