When kindergartner Cameron Conrey realized his school’s toaster was getting a little rickety, he decided to do something about it.
“Our toaster isn’t that fast. We needed a faster toaster,” he told Global News.

He started a fundraising campaign to buy a new, industrial-strength machine — and raised more than $1,000 in the first 24 hours.
“I thought it wasn’t going to go this fast, and then it went ‘boom,'” he said.
Conrey helps out with the breakfast club at St. Jude Elementary in Greenfield Park, in Montreal’s south shore.

“I think as soon as they saw a kid’s face and a kid who wanted to do something nice for his school, they just turned out in droves.”

The breakfast clubs, implemented in many schools across Canada, are subsidized programs that make sure all children get a good meal at a discounted price before school starts.
St. Jude’s breakfast club is especially popular with more than 200 of the roughly 300 students taking part.
“I had no idea they even had this initiative. Cameron apparently said to his mum, ‘you know, I think we need another toaster.'”
The new toaster — expected to arrive in the coming weeks — can churn out 400 slices of toast in less than an hour.
