NDP leader Adrian Dix kicked off day one of his campaign to become B.C.’s next Premier by vowing to freeze ferry fares.
Dix says an NDP government will freeze BC Ferries fares at the current rate for 20 months while an audit is undertaken. The freeze will take effect this May and run until March 2015.

Ferry fares have been steadily rising year over year, while ridership continues to fall.
Dix also promised to spend $100 million to establish a grant program for students. Students would be entitled to a $1,500 non-repayable grant. The program would be funded through increased taxes on banks, proposed by the NDP.

The party also promised to review and update B.C.’s liquor laws if elected on May 14.
