Police from multiple B.C. jurisdictions were involved in a pursuit on Highway 1 on Thursday night.
RCMP said they received a report of a possible assault in a white BMW sedan at around 8 p.m.
The car was spotted in the Chilliwack area. As an officer pulled up behind the suspect’s car, the driver reversed, crashed into the police cruiser and fled the area, police said.
Officers from multiple jurisdictions pursued the car along Highway 1 from Chilliwack through Abbotsford and into Langley.
Police said they were concerned that the victim of the reported assault was still in the vehicle and deployed a spike belt to bring an end to the pursuit.
After the BMW came to a stop near 232 Street in Langley, police arrested a suspect and found a passenger inside the car.
The incident backed up traffic for hours, finally clearing early Friday morning.
