For 200 people who normally can’t afford a trip to the dentist – today they had a big reason to smile. A team of dentists and staff in a Surrey clinic marked oral health month by providing them much-needed dental care – for free.
Dozens of people showed up at the Pacific Oral Health Society’s new facility Saturday morning to get everything from cleaning to dental x-rays from the dentists and hygienists who volunteered their time and skills for this program.
The program was started a few years ago by Dr. Harinder Dhanju after realizing the need for a community dental clinic to serve low income families in the Fraser Valley.
The new facility will also help train dental and hygiene students; which will give them additional clinical experience and at the same time, give back to the community through events like this one.
