PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Police are investigating a theft of approximately $98,000 worth of copper wire from a worksite at the Prince Albert pulp mill.
P.A. police began investigating the theft in mid-March after over 11,000 meters or 33,000 lbs of copper was removed from a working site.

The cost of replacing this wire is estimated at $300,000.
Responsible parties burned the wire on site to remove the protective insulation sometime between September 2011 and March 2012. Several burn sites were found in the area.

Burning the wire leaves behind highly toxic and carcinogenic materials and Saskatchewan Environment and Resource Management is cleaning up the aftermath.
