Man charged after collision in Bracebridge

A man has been charged after allegedly fleeing the scene of a collision in Bracebridge.

According to Bracebridge OPP, on Wednesday, just after 8 a.m., officers received a report of a collision on Highway 11 south of Cedar Lane.

Police say a pickup truck towing three snowmobiles crashed into the ditch.

Officers say the driver of the vehicle fled the area on foot before police arrived.

Police say after fleeing, the suspect allegedly stole a canoe and paddled into Bracebridge where he was arrested.

According to police, 52-year-old James Rye from Huntsville has been charged with possession of stolen property, breach of probation, theft and break-and-enter.

Officers say he is scheduled to appear in court in Bracebridge on Thursday.
