The New Brunswick government will hire a consultant to review the province’s response to the historic 2018 spring flood.
Public Safety Minister Carl Urquhart says it’s important to learn how to be better prepared for future events.

About 12,000 properties were affected by flood waters, and the government has received more than 1,100 applications for disaster financial assistance.
The maximum assistance for private homes was $160,000, and $500,000 for small businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
Urquhart says 85 per cent of the claims have been completed.

Some people have complained they are still living in camping trailers or garages during the cold weather while they wait for repairs on their homes to be completed.
Urquhart says the EMO can provide emergency shelter for anyone who needs it.
