Dozens gathered at the Kelowna overpass — protesting the federal government’s position on genetically modified foods today.

Protesters say the federal government is pushing an agenda that allows for more genetically modified foods without labelling and it has been done without public consultation.

Organizers say not enough is being done to protect the public.

“It’s not tested for safety and it’s not labelled like in other countries. 60 countries have labelling and ours doesn’t which is ridiculous,” said Heidi Osterman of the Truth Food Foundation.

About 500 signatures were collected for a petition which will later be sent to Kelowna-Lake Country Ron Cannon’s office.
