City councillors in Victoria are considering relocating a historic rose garden at Beacon Hill Park and erecting an eight-foot-high fence around it because of a deer problem.

Councillors say the deer are munching on flower beds and shrubbery, and all the repellents park staff have tried so far have failed.

The idea of relocating the rose garden first came under consideration a few years ago — and now, a private citizen has offered to cover the $160,000 cost of moving the prized roses.
