RCMP investigate fatal collision near Hinton

EDMONTON- A woman is dead following an overnight collision near Hinton.

The collision happened on Highway 16 around 12:30a.m. Saturday, approximately 30 kilometres east of Hinton.

RCMP believe a car was heading east on the highway when it swerved to avoid hitting wildlife on the road. The vehicle then lost control, crossed the median and rolled multiple times, according to Hinton RCMP.

There were four people in the vehicle at the time- two females, a male and an infant. Police say one of the women was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene.

The other three passengers were taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Officers say alcohol and road conditions are not believed to be factors in the collision.

The victim’s name has not been released.
