Man dead after ultralight aircraft crashes into icy lake near Sudbury

ESPANOLA, Ont. – A man is dead after his ultralight aircraft crashed into the ice of a lake west of Sudbury.

Police say the aircraft went down around 4:20 p.m. Friday on Raven Lake.

Their preliminary investigation suggests the ultralight went into a nosedive before hitting the ice.

Responding officers and paramedics raced to the crash site by snowmobile, and pronounced the pilot, who was the lone occupant, dead at the scene.

Police have identified him as 57-year-old Daniel Morrissette.

The Transportation Safety Board has been called in to investigate.
