Emergency crews rushed to Belleville’s east end Wednesday evening to respond to a six-vehicle collision.
According to Staff Sgt. Rene Aubertin from the Belleville Police Service, the crash happened on Old Highway 2, just west of Burns Drive around 6 p.m.
Two vehicles were initially involved and the other four piled in, causing a chain-reaction collision, said Aubertin.
Eight people were injured during the pile-up, and two people were transported to Kingston General Hospital with serious injuries, but police say none of the injuries are life-threatening.
Paramedics and firefighters assisted numerous people at the scene. Tyendinaga police officers assisted as well.
Aubertin says the highway was closed until 3 a.m. Thursday morning.
No charges have been laid yet because the police investigation is still ongoing. Aubertin could not say whether Wednesday’s heavy rain was a factor in the collision.
Belleville police are asking anyone who may have information about the crash, or anyone who was travelling on Old Highway 2 at the time of the collision to contact Const. Brad Stitt at 613-966-0882 ext. 2121.
Police say they are hoping that someone may have dash-cam footage of the incident.
