Investigators say he allegedly pocketed some of the proceeds “for his personal benefit.”

Eldon Gerald Colpitts, 54, of Whitby, Ont., is charged with theft over $5,000 and theft by person required to account.

He is due in court on May 6.

Colpitts is still listed in the city’s employee phone directory and the voicemail box linked to his number is identified as belonging to him.
