Officer injured on way to ‘priority call,’ strikes SUV with Saskatoon police car

The Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said one of their officers suffered minor injuries when he hit an SUV with his patrol car.

The crash occurred at roughly 9:45 a.m. CT on Aug. 1.

The SPS member was sent to a “priority call,” heading westbound on 22nd Street West in a marked police car with emergency lights activated.

Police said the car came to a stop at Idylwyld Drive North before it was in a collision with an SUV in the intersection.

Following the review of dash cam video from the patrol car, SPS officials clarified on Aug. 2 that while the civilian driver did not yield to the emergency vehicle, it was the officer who struck the SUV.

A decision on whether a ticket will be issued has not been made at this time.

The 50-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was not hurt.

Investigation into the two-vehicle crash is ongoing.
