The lawsuit alleges the care home should have known McLeod was violent and failed to provide a safe environment for residents.

The allegations have not been proven in court.

Joe Mcleod made headlines in 2010 when he was jailed for pushing his wife during a moment of confusion related to his dementia. After an outcry spearheaded by Manitoba’s Liberal leader, the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority found space for McLeod at the downtown Parkview Place care home.

The provincial coroner is already planning an inquest into Alexander’s death, which will also probe the care and treatment that is available to aggressive Alzheimer’s patients like McLeod.
