The officers, with the help of several bystanders, smashed the car’s windows and rescued a seven-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman who were trapped inside.

Police say the vehicle was travelling westbound on Regional Road 13 when it lost control and hit a hydro pole, flipping the car on its roof.

Paramedics took the occupants to a local hospital where they were treated.

The 40-year-old driver was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to provide a breath sample. She was released on a promise to appear in court at a later date. Her name is being withheld to protect the identity of the child.
