A 51-year-old man from East Gwillimbury is facing several charges following a tussle with officers during an arrest, police say.
According to South Simcoe police, officers were dispatched to a coffee shop on Holland Street East in Bradford on July 14 at around 10:40 p.m., after receiving report that an intoxicated man was harassing patrons.
When police arrived on scene, the suspect was at his vehicle, and two citizens were trying to convince him not to drive.
Police spoke to the man and detected an odour of alcohol. They say the man rejected their suggestions to take a taxi or accept a ride home with them.
Police say the man walked away, but was having difficulty walking. The officers decided to arrest him for public intoxication in order to protect himself and the public.
According to police, the man tussled with the officers when they attempted to arrest him, resulting in charges.
The man is now facing several charges including two counts of resisting arrest, attempting to disarm a peace officer and being intoxicated in a public place.
Police say the man was eventually released with a promise to appear in court.
