The Assiniboine Park Zoo has a history of change. Global News

The Assiniboine Park Zoo is giving visitors the chance to get in touch with their Australian side this Spring.

The zoo is set to open its new Australian Walkabout exhibit.  It will feature 14 female red kangaroos and their young.  Plus, four emus – the largest bird native to Australia.

Tim Sinclair-Smith, Director of Zoological Operations, says,  “the whole point is for the public to come to the zoo and have an intimate experience with the animals.  One way to do that is to give people the ability to actually interact with the animals.”

The exhibit will be a large outdoor enclosure, roughly the size of a school gymnasium, where visitors can enter alongside the animals.

The Walkabout will be located just south of the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden inside the zoo.
