Guelph man arrested for swimming naked in downtown fountain

With the heat wave hitting southern Ontario, a Guelph man seemingly went to the extreme to try and cool off over the Canada Day long weekend.

Guelph police were called to a fountain at Wyndham and Quebec streets at around 5:30 a.m. on Monday for reports of a man bathing in the water.

Police said the man was warned by responding officers and sent on his way.

It’s alleged the man returned to the fountain at around 8:30 a.m. and was caught swimming naked.

“The male was asked to exit the fountain and proceeded to stand up, exposing himself,” police said in a news release on Tuesday. “The male was cautioned again and sent on his way.”

Police said they then received multiple reports of the man screaming and yelling at people.

The 44-year-old was arrested and charged with an indecent act and causing a disturbance.

He was held for a bail hearing.
