A routine traffic stop by Hamilton Police has resulted in fraud charges.
On Sunday, shortly before 2:30 p.m., officers pulled over a 2005 black Volvo with “suspicious” front plates attached, as it was exiting the parking lot at 1603 Main St. W.
The driver was not able to provide proper vehicle or personal documentation, so he was placed under arrest for “use of plates not authorized.”
Police continued their investigation at the scene and located several stolen credit cards and personal identification.
A 43-year-old Scarborough man, Christopher Clapp, has been charged with 62 criminal offences.
They include:
• Several counts of Possession and use of traffic credit cards
• Several counts of Possess a Counterfeit Mark
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Fraud Under $5,000
• Several counts of Fail to Comply Probation
• Several counts of Identity Theft
• Possession of stolen property Under $5,000
Clapp was held for a bail hearing and scheduled to appear again at John Sopinka Courthouse next Wednesday.
