A 23-year-old man is in hospital after losing control of his vehicle while driving in Verdun late Sunday night.
Montreal police say the man was driving westbound on de Verdun Street around 12:40 a.m. when he went through a construction site near 6th Avenue.

He then struck a Hydro-Québec electric pole near Desmarchais Avenue.
Police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils said the man was conscious but in critical condition when he was taken to hospital. His condition has since been upgraded to stable.
Speed is a contributing factor, police say.
Blood tests will also determine if drugs played a role in the crash, but police say they do not believe the man was under the influence of alcohol.
An investigation is underway.
