Toronto police officer riding motorcycle seriously injured after being struck by vehicle

An on-duty Toronto police officer on a motorcycle has been seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle in the city’s west-end on Thursday.

Police and paramedics responded to a call about a collision at Vaughan Road and Oakwood Avenue at before 2:40 p.m.

A Toronto Paramedics spokesperson told Global News the officer was rushed to hospital with a serious injury.

“The officer was taken to a local trauma centre by emergency run with very, very serious injuries to his lower body,” said Gary Long, a civilian spokesman for Toronto police.

Police later said the officer sustained a fracture to his leg.

Officers said a vehicle was pulling out of a gas station when it collided with the motorcycle.

No other injuries were reported.

Police said the driver of the other vehicle remained on scene.

The intersection was closed for an investigation.
