Saskatoon police to wear golf shirts instead of uniforms in Pride parade

The Saskatoon Police Service is the latest to decide that officers will not wear uniforms when they participate in the city’s Pride parade later this month.

The police service says it’s been working with local groups on plans for the June 23 event.

Saskatoon Pride co-chair Connor Rodriguez says some in the LGBTQ community see the uniform as a barrier.

Police Chief Troy Cooper says the service doesn’t want to contribute to any obstacles for the community and will proudly walk in the parade out of uniform.

Officers will wear Saskatoon police golf shirts instead.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Bridging Communities.”
