Driver airlifted following crash on County Road 36 near Buckhorn

One man was airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital after a convertible crashed on County Road 36 near Buckhorn, Ont. on Tuesday afternoon – May 8, 2018

A man was airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre following a single vehicle crash near Buckhorn on Tuesday afternoon.

Witnesses say around 1 p.m., a convertible crashed into a ditch on County Road 36 near Deer Bay Reach, approximately 35 kilometres north of Peterborough.

The vehicle ended up on its roof which required Trent Lakes firefighters to use the Jaws of Life to free the driver.

A man was airlifted by an Ornge helicopter to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto with reported head and neck injuries, according to OPP. Police said the injuries were non-life threatening.

The helicopter was required to make a landing at a nearby field.

County Road 36 between Buckhorn and Burleigh Falls was closed until 4:05 p.m.

The cause of the crash has yet to be determined.
