Calgary police have laid murder charges in the 2014 death of a man found frozen in a parking lot on a Saturday afternoon.
Douglas Miller’s body was found in the 5900 block of Maddigan Drive N.E. at about 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 29, 2014, by a passerby. It’s believed he died at some point the night before.
When asked in February about the time it took before Miller’s body was discovered, Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta said it was a blustery, cold day and that when Miller’s body was found, it was partially covered in snow.
Months later, a report led investigators to determine his death was suspicious.
Police explored several leads in the years that followed and, in February of 2018, investigators confirmed the death was a homicide after receiving new information, and a CCTV image of a person believed to be connected to the case was released.

The person was identified through a tip from the public and interviewed, however police said they were not a person of interest.
As officers continued their investigation, a person of interest was identified. Police now believe Miller and the suspect were known to each other.
Joshua Michael Anthony Mills, 28, of Edmonton was arrested in Edmonton on Friday. On Saturday he was charged with second-degree murder.
Calgary police said the details of what happened on the night of Miller’s death will not be released at the request of the family.
