Residents of one of the homes on Alfred Street that was crashed into yesterday are trying to deal with the aftermath of the collision. One of four residents in the home, Maria Tsinaridis, described the crash as a prolonged bang.
“I thought something fell on the house,” Tsinaridis told CKWS.
Police say the collision happened just before noon on Alfred Street just south of Concession Street.
According to police, a female driver lost control of her silver sedan. The car then jumped the median, went across the street and hit two houses.
Tsinaridis believes the woman in the car had a medical emergency that made her slam her foot on the break. This has not been confirmed by police.
“When I came out we were trying to pry the door open to get the lady out,” said Tsinaridis. “She didn’t know what was happening
The foundation of Tsinaridis’s house was seriously damaged and firefighters worked for a couple of hours on Thursday to stabilize it so it wouldn’t collapse. A contractor has been called in to assess the damage, but until then, the five occupants have been told to avoid going into the front room above the damaged foundation.
The driver of the car was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. There is no word on whether or not she will face charges.
