Winnipeg police arrest suspect connected to violent machete attack

Winnipeg police have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with a violent assault that took place last February.

The attack happened on Feb. 24 around 6:15 a.m. in the Magnus Avenue area between Chudley Street and Buller Avenue.

Police said a woman was struck repeatedly with a machete. She was also kicked in the head, face and upper body.

On Wednesday around 11:40 p.m., police found and arrested a suspect in the 200 block of Park Manor Boulevard.

Vincent Rupert Thompson, from Winnipeg, has been charged with aggravated assault, uttering threats, intimidation, and possessing a weapon.

He remains in police custody.
