The project will help Penticton’s most vulnerable people put a roof over their heads while also helping a local manufacturer.
The provincial government is providing funding for 52 modular homes with around-the-clock support services for at-risk people.
“We’re acting to provide a rapid solution to homelessness in the community but we’re also thrilled that part of the solution here in Penticton involves a local company,” said Selina Robinson, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing in a news release.
The housing units will be built by Metric Modular.
“Metric Modular’s Penticton factory provides employment to many local families and we are all extremely excited to be part of this project that will benefit our community,” said company president Stephen Branch.
The old Skaha Sunrise Motel, owned by the province, will be demolished to make way for the new homes which are expected to be completed by December.
