A major artery through Guelph’s downtown core will be closed for two full weekdays in April for construction work.
Norfolk Street will be blocked off on April 19 and 20 between Wilson and Macdonell Streets while crews dismantle the footbridge overhead.
The city is urging commuters to use detours to get around the work, especially during the morning and afternoon rushes.
Those who want to get around the downtown core can use Wellington and Woolwich streets.
Drivers who want to get into the downtown core should use Wellington and Wyndham streets when coming from the south, and Woolwich and Wyndham when coming from the north.
Trucks can only access the downtown area on Macdonell Street due to height restrictions on the Wyndham Street rail bridge.
Guelph Transit routes will be detoured during the closure and more information can be found on their website.
The replacement of the footbridge is park of the construction on the new parking facility at the site of the Wilson Street parking lot.
Parkade construction is expected to be completed in 2019.
