Former Quebec finance minister André Bourbeau passed away early Sunday morning.
Bourbeau began his political career as a municipal councillor in Saint-Lambert from 1970 to 1978.
In 1981, Bourbeau was elected as a Liberal deputy for the Laporte riding on the South Shore. He was re-elected by large margins in 1985, 1989, 1994 and 1998.
Former Quebec premier Robert Bourassa appointed Bourbeau as Minister of Municipal Affairs in 1985 which he served until 1989.

Bourbeau was named the Minister of Manpower, Income Security and Vocational Training from June 23, 1988, to Jan. 12, 1994.
Bourbeau became the Minister of Finance in January 1994 and served until September 1994.
Eric Bourbeau posted on Facebook saying that his father passed away in his sleep after a 20-year battle with cancer.
Bourbeau was 81 years old.
