The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) announced this week that RxFiles has joined its College of Pharmacy and Nutrition.
RxFiles is an academic detailing program that assists doctors and pharmacists in deciding on the best possible drug therapy for their patients. It does this by providing objective, comparative drug information to clinicians through reference materials and in-person training.
“I’m very excited to have RxFiles, which has an international reputation, join the college and the university,” the college’s dean, Kishor Wasan, said in a press release.
“RxFiles provides expertise on medication assessment that is invaluable to family practice physicians and the health-care community.”
RxFiles began in 1997 as a service for Saskatoon’s family doctors. In 2000, the program expanded to provide its services to clinicians throughout the province.
U of S officials said RxFiles will be co-located with medSask, which is a complimentary program that provides on-demand drug information to health care professionals and the public via phone and email.
“I’m delighted that RxFiles is now part of the college,” Tony Vannelli, provost and vice-president academic at the U of S, said in a press release.
“This program is important for health-care professionals, and it is equally important in the training of such professionals.”
Annual funding of $450,000 is being provided by the Saskatchewan government to the college to operate the RxFiles Academic Detailing Program.
