The City of Burlington isn’t giving up its fight against a 26-storey downtown condo complex.
The Ontario Municipal Board recently approved the Martha Street development, called the “Nautique,” but the city is now asking for a review of that decision.
It argues that the decision places the city’s tallest building on a site that is designated for significantly lower levels of height and density within Burlington’s official plan.
Mayor Rick Goldring has said he’s “extremely disappointed” by the OMB’s decision which “did not give credence to that plan.”
He argues that there is “no merit for a 26-storey building at that location” and says city councillors have been advised by legal staff that “there is sound basis for this review.”
Ward 2 Coun. Marianne Meed Ward has called the approval “absolutely devastating” for Burlington’s downtown.
