The community is rallying around the family of a Lumby man who died snowmobiling in the Mabel Lake area on Sunday.
Travis Squair was a new dad and the president of the snowmobile association for the area.
“Travis was just a very personable type of a guy,” friend Craig Moore said.
“[He] would always walk into an area or into a room and light up the place with his big smile and everything like that. [He was a] big family man. He was always there for his friends and family.”
Now his friends are trying to send that same support to Squair’s family.
They’ve set up an online auction with donated prizes from the community.
They are also distributing memorial decals in exchange for donations.
Funds raised will go to Squair’s wife and infant daughter.
In Sunday’s crash, police said the Lumby man went over a 20-foot embankment and into a creek. His sled landed on top of him and he died at the scene.
“It is a sport that we all love doing and we know the risks that happen out there. Unfortunately, it was just a very freak accident that’s happened. He’s been snowmobiling his whole life and very experienced in the backcountry,” Moore said.
