Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says an officer with Waterloo Regional Police has been charged with sexual assault.
The charge stems from an incident that happened on Oct. 14, 2017, during an Oktoberfest event at the Concordia Club in Kitchener.
The SIU says its investigators were contacted by Waterloo Regional Police on Oct. 16 regarding a complaint against the officer, who was off-duty at the time of the alleged incident.
Const. Eric Schnarr has now been formally charged and will appear in court on March 28.
Schnarr is a six-year member and has been suspended with pay as per the requirements of the Police Services Act of Ontario.
The SIU is an arm’s-length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
