The money will support a “Family Space & Kitchen” located just outside of the pediatric intensive care and observation unit, which will specialize in the care of critically ill babies, children and teenagers.

The Family Space & Kitchen will provide families with a stress-free environment to spend time with young patients.

“It will help Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital better serve the medical needs of Saskatchewan’s children, and to support their families in the emotional journey towards healing,” foundation president and CEO Brynn Boback-Lane said in a press release.

“Their gift exemplifies what it means to ‘pay it forward’ to those families who have served alongside them for so many years.”

Born in Lampman, Sask., Ron Carson would go on to start a small welding business, Carson Energy Services Ltd., in 1974. After venturing into the oil and gas industry, the company grew to over 900 employees and 17 locations on the Prairies.

He married his wife Shirley in 1965 and raised their five children and 13 grandchildren on Saskatchewan soil.

Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital is expected to open late 2019.
