The Kelowna Chiefs have taken a 2-1 lead in games against the Summerland Steam in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League playoffs.

After splitting the first two games of the series, the Chiefs needed an overtime marker by Brody Dale to win Monday night’s game in Summerland by a 2-1 score.

Kelowna was trailing by a goal heading into the third period.

“There was never doubt, even after the second intermission, we were going to win this game,” said Chiefs head coach Jason Tansem. “We know we have the horses, we know we have the players, we’re a deep team and we knew we could keep playing four lines and someone was going to score.”

Despite being held off the score card in the third and overtime periods, the Steam’s head coach was happy with his team’s performance.

“A great hockey game,” said John DePourcq. “Unfortunately, the puck bounced for them tonight and not for us. I’m proud how the boys played, it’s a long ways from over, we’re going to keep working hard. Tomorrow’s another big night and a must win for us.”

Game four in the best of seven series goes Tuesday night in Summerland.
